Frequently Asked Questions

FAQs:

What does the front table/speaker table need to look like?

The speaker’s table needs to have all the elements on it that every other table has. This includes a pitcher of grape juice, candles, all the elements, and the three layered matzah napkin.

How salty does the salt water need to be?

This is not exact science. The water salinity should be similar to that of the ocean or tears.

Does it matter what kind of horseradish we get?

The horseradish can be found in the refrigerated section of grocery store usually near the refrigerated pickles, sour cream, cottage cheese etc. We prefer silver spring horseradish but see the pictures on the set up page. (Include link) DO NOT BUY Gold’s Horseradish or any horseradish that is not refrigerated. No horseradish with mayonnaise.

If the matzah box says “not for Passover,” can I use it?

Yes, don’t worry about that. “Not for Passover” is for religious Jewish people and is a rabbinical issue. It does not affect its use for us.

Is it okay for us to order matzah online?

Yes. Totally fine. However, when ordering online there is a possibility of some breakage, keep that in mind when you order online. We would plan for about 10% breakage.

Should we use glass plates and regular silverware?

You may if you want to. However, we have seen beautiful Passover settings with plasticware, some of which is very nice. We recommend plasticware and even plastic table coverings which facilitate a much quicker and efficient clean up after the Passover. But we leave the decorating of the tables up to the discretion of the church or group hosting the event.

Do the candles have to be 12-inch taper candles?

We prefer 10-12 inch taper candles. Any color is fine.

Does it matter what the candle holders look like?

No.

Where do we put everything on the table?

If dinner is being served during our Passover event (some churches prefer not to have dinner and we only do Passover seder part) then all the elements for the Passover need to be in the center of the table, leaving room for dinner. After dinner we clear the table of the dinner plates and utensils and bring all the elements from the middle of the table to the people.

Does the grape juice need to be in pitchers?

The pitchers do make the table look esthetically pleasing, however if necessary, it’s okay to put a 65 ounce 100% grape juice on the table by itself.

How big do the cups need to be for the grape juice?

5-ounce cups are best, clear hard plastic are recommended. But this is not critical.

Should we light the candles or fill the cups before you arrive?

No.

Does the juice need to be 100% grape juice?

Yes. We have found good deals on grocery store brand juice in the store. Brand doesn’t matter but make sure its 100% grape juice. (No grape drink, Kool-Aid, etc).

What is the attire for the evening?

Casual.

Is it okay to bring children?

Yes! The Passover is a family event and a wonderful thing for children to be a part of. As far as age is concerned, discretion is left up to parents. We would say 5 years and up is great depending on behavior of the children. You might want to have childcare available for 5 and under.
